Fortunoff Fine Jewelry has had a long history with the legendary late Lauren Bacall. She launched the opening of the Fortunoff store on 5th Avenue in 1979.  In the photo at right, I am holding the copy of that first ad while at a party celebrating the 25th Anniversary of said opening.

I recently pored over the Bonhams catalog of 740 pieces from the recent estate sale. I was struck by the gorgeous photos of Bacall and by how many of them showed her wearing pearls. It reminded me about my time in the 1980’s, helping her select jewelry to add to her collection –  always pearls. She had a great eye and loved large, unusual Baroque, South Sea and Tahitian pearls.

I enjoyed reading about the auction in this New York Times article. She had great, eclectic taste.
