Celebrating the Past in Our New Store

Giancarlo in front of the Work In Progress

We commissioned artist Giancarlo Impiglia to create a unique mural for the launch of our Fifth Avenue store in 1979. The beautiful mural covered the entire mezzanine wall.

Seeing the magnificent murals by Italian artist Giancarlo Impiglia make their way onto the walls of our soon-to-open store in Westbury, New York, has brought back many wonderful memories. This is actually the second time the mural has been installed. It was originally displayed at our Fifth Avenue flagship store.

Giancarlo, who is renowned for his contemporary Art Deco style, captured the Fortunoff sense of elegance and cutting-edge street fashion when he crafted the piece in 1979. Life-size scenes of bustling city streets from days gone by graced the entire mezzanine wall. It seems only fitting, then, that the mural has found life again on one wall in our new Westbury store.

Esther Fortunoff, Fifth Avenue Store

Esther played an active role in the creation of the Fifth Avenue store back in 1976. She’s leading the efforts again at our new Westbury, NY store, slated to open in September.

Setting up the new store reminds me of all the work that went into construction and operation of the Stanford White-designed building. Seems impossible that it was 36 years ago that I joined my parents, Helene and Alan Fortunoff, at the store’s grand opening party!

Plans are in the works for the new store’s grand opening celebration in a few weeks. To stay up to date on announcements and details, follow us on Facebook.
